If there are no cultural events to attend, the program today will include a visit to Lemo a place best visited in the morning as it facing east. Lemo is a place where the wooden effigies representing the ancestors are on display high up on the rock cliff with tombs dug on the rock like chambers. The next place is Kambira-- a place where you can have a closer look at a tree where infants were buried. The last palce to visit before lunch is Suaya - the Toraja Royal family burial place where various types of sarcophagus are on display as a small museum. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon visit Siguntu - a small village on a hill with beautiful Tongkonan and rice barns then proceed to Londa, a cave as a natural catacomb.

Day 03 Half day Trek to Batutumonga and overnight at the slope of Mt. Sesean

Morning visit Sa'dan, a village with Toraja Weaving and then trek up to Batutumonga. The guide will decide the suitable trek trail according to your walking performance. You will arrive in Batutumonga at around lunch time. Another trek will be made in the afternoon to visit Lokomata, where a huge single rock is carved to build lots of chamber like tombs.

Day 04 Half day trek

Trek down to Bori where the tallest stone monuments in Toraja are located and then drive to local restaurant for lunch. Afternoon visit Ke'te Kesu -  a beautiful Toraja village with traditional houses and wood carving. Ancient wooden sarcophagus can be seen next to the village.

Participant guidelines

  • Provide yourself with black costume in case there are funeral ceremonies to attend during your Toraja visit.
  • Dress light and proper
  • Bring along jacket or pullover for high altitude places during your stay in Batutumonga
  • Rubber shoes or flat footwear is advised for short treks and village visits.

Other disclosures

A funeral ceremony is one of the very interesting attractions in Toraja. We highly recommend participating in these activities.

It is polite to bring something when you attend cultural rituals whether it be a funeral ceremony or a new house inauguration ceremony. You will attend as part of the society and not as on lookers. Your guide will advice what is worth to bring along.

The program  may change to fit with any cultural events. But the stay in Batutumonga is fixed because of the room availability concern.
